Religious Education Program

At the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Greater Naples (UUCGN), we feel that children are best allowed to discover religion through a combination of active participation, subtle observation, and heartfelt celebration of life's journey. Each child is encouraged to follow his or her own personal theological path. Religious Education (RE) teachers at UUCGN involve students in activities and lessons which explore our UU roots, build an understanding of world religions, identify with our Jewish and Christian teachings, and emphasize the importance of peace and social action.

Musicians, Kids, and Katy

The 2008/09 academic year focuses on UU History and Identity. Who are we? How did we get here? How are we together? How can our tradition of free religious faith help us with everyday life? These are a few of the topics we will be exploring through a variety of activities including music, worship, creative arts, games and community service.

There are two new curricula being used at UUCGN this year. The first is Spirit Play for our preK through First grade class. The second is a year long Coming of Age class for our ninth through twelfth grade youth. Registration is required. Contact Jennifer Dant, Director of Religious Education, via the church office for more information.

Religious Education Mission Statement

Our mission is to create a program of religious education based on the principles of Unitarian Universalism through the understanding of our religion's Jewish and Christian teachings, the study of world religions, the use of reason, and the learning of ethics and values so that our children can build a healthy, mature, and responsible character of integrity and compassion. We welcome all people of good will.

Sunday Services and Religious Education Classes

We offer religious education (RE) classes for children and youth of all ages, preschool through high school. Our nursery is also available for care of children under age three. RE classes begin with the children joining their families in the service. A special message (known as "the moment with the children") is shared by our minister or other caring volunteers. TheRE Kids children then proceed to RE class with their teachers. Lessons extend until 11:45 at which time the children may socialize on the playground and in our main RE classroom until 12:00. Teen monitors manage the outside areas and our RE staff oversees the indoor activity. We encourage you and your child to stay and take advantage of this opportunity to get to know your church friends.
